Angels try to break losing streak by playing Nickelback, score zero runs

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Just ask the Los Angeles Angels.

One day after suffering their franchise-worst 13th consecutive loss and firing manager Joe Maddon, the team decided it needed reinforcements.

Those reinforcements? Nickelback.

Instead of their usual walkup songs, Angels hitters chose Nickelback tunes to play through the speakers of Angels Stadium. Leadoff hitter Shohei Ohtani walked up to the plate as “Photograph” played, and from that point forward it was a showcase of the Canadian rock band’s greatest hits as all Angels batters had their own song.

ESPN’s Alden González reported that this unusual strategy was a way for the team to “shake things up,” but not even a hero like Nickelback could save them.

In fact, it appears to have backfired because the Angels didn’t score a single run, falling 1-0 to the Red Sox and bumping their winless streak to 14.

The Angels may not have won a baseball game on Wednesday, but they definitely won the night on Twitter. Here are some of the best reactions:
