Arrest made in shooting death of Modesto DoorDash driver

A man was arrested Tuesday in Southern California in connection with the shooting death of a 56-year-old DoorDash driver last month in Modesto, according to police. Officers arrested 46-year-old Mario Esparza, of Modesto, on murder charges after he was pulled over for a traffic stop by the California Highway Patrol on Interstate 405 near Carson.Police had shared a video on social media of his car Tuesday.Andrew Satavu, of Modesto, was killed in the April 18 shooting after having just made a delivery in the 1600 block of Gardenia Road around 9:45 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Satavu in his vehicle with several gunshot wounds.Satavu’s neighbors described him as a kind, friendly man — always one to offer a wave and a smile.”We always talked. If we were out front, we would always visit,” said Sherri Fabbri who lives in the home across the street from where Satavu lived with his wife and children. “As nice a man as he is, and the fact that he was working, trying to support his family and, you know, freak thing that happens… I’m speechless.”In a written statement from DoorDash at the time, a spokesperson said:”We are shocked and deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence. Our hearts go out to Mr. Satavu’s loved ones during this unimaginably difficult time. We have reached out to Mr. Satavu’s family to extend our condolences and will support them in any way we can.
