Dates confirmed for series between NSW Blues, Queensland Maroons


The dates for the 2022 State of Origin series have been revealed as new Queensland coach Billy Slater prepares to block NSW‘s bid for back-to-back wins.

Next year’s series between NSW and Queensland will begin at Sydney’s Stadium Australia on June 8, before the Blues and Maroons square off at Perth’s Optus Stadium on June 26.

The third match of the series will then be played at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on July 13.

Slater is tasked with denying consecutive series wins to NSW after being announced in September as the successor to sacked Queensland coach Paul Green.

Slater had already been serving as a Maroons selector.

The COVID-19 pandemic limited all three 2021 games to Queensland, with the first being held in Townsville and the second and third in Brisbane.

Perth is set to host its second Origin game in history in 2022, following its debut in the second match of the 2019 series.

That game saw Manly megastar Tom Trbojevic score a hat-trick to lead NSW to an 18-14 victory.
