Los Angeles-based restaurant chain Dave’s Hot Chicken is opening its first Sacramento location, fueling the hot chicken trend in the area. “It’s exciting. We hired about 70 people all from this area,” said Martha Olmos, operating manager for the new location.The new restaurant is located at 3409 Arden Way, right across from a McDonald’s. This location will be open Sunday through Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until midnight. Dave’s Hot Chicken specializes in hot chicken tenders and sliders and offers sides of french fries, macaroni and cheese, and kale slaw. “We’re known for our spice level. We have seven different levels. You can choose your spice level depending on how comfortable you are with heat,” Olmos said.Spice levels from “no spice” to “Reaper” will be available, though the Reaper level does require a signed waiver for those daring souls, according to a company news release.Rapper Drake, actor Samuel L. Jackson and former California First Lady Maria Shriver are among the company’s investors. Restaurant founders Arman Oganesyan, chef Dave Kopushyan, and brothers Tommy and Gary Rubenyan originally launched a hot chicken parking lot pop-up in 2017, according to a news release. Soon after, they opened their first official restaurant in East Hollywood. The company has sold hundreds of rights to franchise locations across the U.S. and Canada, according to the company, and hopes to open 25 more locations within the year. It plans to open locations soon in Folsom and Fair Oaks, KCRA 3 has confirmed. This announcement comes just weeks after the Sacramento Hot Chicken Battle in which local restaurants battled for the title of “Best Hot Chicken in Sac.”Dave’s Hot Chicken joins restaurants such as Skips Fish & Chicken, SacVille Hot Chicken and Nash & Proper on the local hot chicken train.
