Paul Gallen vs Josh Aloiai fight called off, COVID positive test, date, when is it

The much-hyped superfight between NRL players-turned-boxers Paul Gallen and Josh Aloiai is off after the Manly star tested positive to COVID-19.

The pair had finally agreed to get in the ring and fight over eight two-minute rounds, following months of bickering over how long the fight should go for.

Earlier this month the deal was struck and they were due to meet in December as part of a two-day boxing event in Newcastle.

But on Monday, Aloiai began to feel sick after a training session, and later returned a positive test to coronavirus.

It’s reported his sparring partner and fellow rugby league hardman Joey Leilua also tested positive.

Leilua was set to fight Chris Heighington on the same card on December 10.

The entire two-day event has been cancelled by promoters No Limit Boxing, who are now frantically working to organise a replacement card.

All tickets purchased so far will be refunded.
