Richmond vs Essendon, Dreamtime at the ‘G, crowd behaviour

Dozens of spectators were ejected during Richmond‘s win against Essendon as violent and unruly behaviour marred Dreamtime at the ‘G celebrations on Saturday night.

More than 50 drunk, abusive and aggressive fans had to be forcibly removed as Richmond defeated Essendon by 32 points. Some pundits turning on police while being escorted out.

Attending the match with an 11-year-old child, witness Jason Feldman described the environment as “scary”.

“It was a feral atmosphere, there were multiple evictions, fights, people swearing. (There was) a real anger in the crowd,” Feldman told 9News.

Among the worst offenders, an intoxicated 21-year-old man bit an officer while being led out of the MCG.

He is expected to be charged on summons with assaulting police and an alcohol-related offence.

A 36-year-old man was pepper-sprayed and arrested after punching an officer, who discovered him urinating outside the MCG.

Two 31-year-old men were also fined $361 each for running onto the field during the match.

According to police, the misbehavior continued after the game as a brawl broke out. Three men were injured in the incident, with one taken to hospital.
