Seahawks coach Pete Carroll receives honorary doctorate from UOP

It was graduation day for the 2022 graduating class at the University of the Pacific and among those celebrating at the commencement ceremony was Pacific Alum and Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll.“It’s really fun to come back but I’m most impressed with how beautiful the campus is now, even more so than ever,” Carroll said.Carroll was presented with an honorary doctorate degree at the ceremony, which is one of the highest honors the university can bestow.“This was a very meaningful time, so to come back. the recognition, I’m humbled by that. I don’t know about them calling me doctor,” Carroll said.Carroll earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and then received his master’s in physical education and a secondary teaching credential in 1978. He also played for two years on the Pacific football team as a free safety.“There was a toughness about that group, the competitiveness and the kind of a brotherhood about it, it just doesn’t go away,” he said. Almost 45 years later, and after winning two national championships at USC and a Super Bowl title with the Seattle Seahawks, Carroll knows his passion and pride started at Pacific.“The culture we created around our teams over the years and the philosophy, the approach and the uncompromising principles we built on, were all founded here,” Carroll said.
